And, a transit virtual interface (transit VIF) is used to access one or more AWS Transit Gateways. A private virtual interface (private VIF) is used to access VPCs using a private IP address. A public virtual interface (public VIF) can access all AWS public services that use a public IP address (such as Amazon S3 buckets, Classic EC2 instances, or EC2 traffic that goes through an internet gateway). Virtual Interfaces (VIF) are necessary to access AWS services using Direct Connect, and come in three distinct types. (Data Transfer in does not play a role as it is $0.00 per GB in all Direct Connect locations.)
